Police in Limbe have taken in custody a 27 year old Aubrey Mulewa for personating a a public officer in Limbe township
It is alleged that Aubrey has been posing as Malawi Defense Force officer since May 2019, before being cornered on Thursday, February 13 in Limbe.
Limbe market police officers got the news that the suspect approached Austin Tewesa, 27, and promised to offer him a job in the force.
He demanded K180,000’00(one hundred and eighty thousand kwacha), Curriculum Vitae (CV), and an application letter which the victim complied.
Later the reporter smelled some fish after noticing that the MDF already recruited people. He then reported the matter at Limbe market police unit.
Upon receipt of the complaint, police personnel made a follow-up which resulted in the apprehension of the suspect. Upon being searched, he was found with car keys, an envelope containing other people’s copies of certificates and curriculum vitae.
It is also alleged that before duping Austin, he did the same to Kananji Tambala, 21, from Mpemba village, Traditional Authority Chimaliro in Thyolo and stole K50,000.(fifty thousand kwacha) from him.
He has since been charged with ‘ theft by trick’ and will appear before court soon.
Police therefore wishes to advise the people not to be taken away by these unscrupulous people on the pretext that that will be offered jobs.
Police further urges the citizenry to report them to police, and that whenever, the security agency in question intends to recruit people it does so through radio and newspaper.
Aubrey Mulewa hails from Chiuta village in the area of Traditional Authority Mthiramanja in Mulanje district.
