Police in Limbe have taken into custody four suspected criminals over robberies and other breaking offences that have been happening in Limbe and other surrounding townships.
The four, namely Mapeto Wasili, 19, Lonjezo Chimpondeni, 22, John Switi, 21, and Stanford Kapise, 42 were arrested on February 23, 2020 in Bangwe, Chigumula and Kachere townships.
The arrest follows a series of robberies in Maone, Chigumula, BCA Hill, Machinjiri, Mapanga and Bangwe between January and February, 2020 where people were robbed of their property and cash.
Limbe Police detectives carried out an intelligence-driven operation which led to the arrest of the four suspects.
Upon being interrogated, they admitted to have committed various crimes in the mentioned areas.
They also led the police to a bush near BCA cemetery where a Browning pistol and one live ammunition wrapped in a plastic bag were recovered together with two panga knives.
The suspects have since been charged with robbery, burglary, and breaking into a building and committing a felony therein, and will appear in court soon.
Police therefore, wish to strongly warn all criminals that they are not leaving any stone unturned until all are apprehended and brought to book.
Mapeto Wasili hails from Mnthongo village, in Traditional Authority Mpama, while Lonjezo Chimpondeni come from Lichiswe village in Traditional Authority Likoswe, both from Chiradzulu district.
John Switi comes from Chirimba village in the area of Traditional Authority Nkaya in Balaka, whereas Stanford Kapise is from Kapise village in Traditional Authority Kunthembwe in Blantyre.
