Former Minister Dausi implicated in fraudulent deals worthy K14 Billion.

Tonse Government has set up a massive fight against the abuse of public resources.

Malawians have learnt in awe,the shocking revelations of how the past regime was looting public funds in dubious deals and in some cases just pure abuse of their respective offices.

On 25th September 2019, a company based in United Arab Emirates(UAE) called One Guard FZE was awarded a contract to supply goods to Malawi Defence Force,Malawi Prison Services with exaggerated prices.

Hon.Nicholas Dausi was then the minister of Homeland Security and all these fraudulent activities happened under his nose and he is alleged to have proved the awarding of this unbelievable contract. Efforts to reach him proved futile as he refused to pick up our call.

The Ministry of Homeland Security bought a cup and plate at K81,000, whereas a handcuff was bought at about K110,000 each.

The same handcuffs in China are sold under K5,000.

For the plates and cups, money over K2.4 billion was spent, and the handcuffs cost K1.1 billion.

This metal cup in South Africa it is sold K3,000.

Other items bought include belts and shoes, blankets, underwears and too uniforms meant for Prison Services.

The ministry used K9.5 billion for the whole deal was subjected to tax free.

Prisons Service spokesperson Chimwemwe Shawa expressed ignorance of the procurements, saying they were done by the Ministry of Homeland Security.

On a related development.

Malaw Government through the office of Chief Secretary has communicated to all controlling officers and heads of departments,Chief Executive Officers of parastatals and the clerk of parliament in an official letter dated 27th July, 2020.

Titled Vetting of Public Contracts

Hence forth all contracts must be vetted by the ministry of justice and the government contracting unit in the office of the president and cabinet.
