Mchinji First Grade Magistrate court has sentenced a 20-year-old woman, Catherine Lusitiko, to 3- years imprisonment with hard labour for having sexual intercourse with a 13-year old boy.
During court proceedings, Mchinji Police prosecutor, Sub- inspector Eugenio Yotamu told the jam packed court that on February 18, 2020, the accused person had found some boys listening to some music at a certain trading centre at Kalakungwa village in the area of Traditional Authority Simphasi in the district.
The convict then dragged one boy to a nearby bathroom where she ordered him to undress and had sexual intercourse with him.
The woman ordered the victim not to reveal to anyone threatening him of unspecified action.
It was further heard in court that the woman had taken advantage of her husband’s absence who had gone to attend a funeral.
The victim’s mother later discovered that her son had difficulties in walking, a development that prompted her to find out.
The boy then spilled the beans to his mother saying Lusitiko had sexually assaulted him.
State prosecutor Eugenio Yotamu prayed for a stiff penalty, saying the woman had infected the young boy with some sexually transmitted diseases thereby prompting him to be forcefully circumcised.
In mitigation, Catherine pleaded for a lenient sentence, saying her first born child is only 3 years old and has a husband to take care of. She also blamed satan for her devilish act.
Passing judgement, First Grade Magistrate Arthur Mtalimanja expressed shock with the woman’s conduct describing it as naive and against the prevailing norms of the society. He finally ordered the woman to sweat and toil in prison for the next 3 years to deter other would be offenders.
The convict, Catherine Lusitiko hails from Mgundo village in the area of Traditional Authority Zulu in Mchinji .
