Chaponda,Supuni and Saiwala must give back the money to Malawi Defence Force soldiers.

While our loyal and determined soldiers risk their lives on deadly peacekeeping missions in war torn countries like Somalia, DRC and many other countries; The Malawi Defence Soldiers have families, who love them dearly and most of these soldiers are the only bread winners in their extended families, their only opportunity to make a fortune to realize their dreams is through these International trips.

United Nations pays $1300 as an allowance per soldier. On top of which they pay extra millions for supplies, equipments and other required logistics.

Unfortunately, Our soldiers get peanuts instead of receiving the appropriate amount of $1300, they get less than $700 and the reasons given are nothing but a cheap song.

From 2014 to 2016, $20 Million was misappropriated by then minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr George Chaponda, Former Malawi Defence Force Commander General Griffin Supuni Phiri and Aubrey Saiwala.

At Malawi Permanent United Nations in New York, the matter was big and UN Representative were extremely annoyed and frustrated that led to the investigation on this crime; that matter was also tabled by Malawi’s Anti Corruption Bureau.

Aubrey Saiwala who is the principal accountant there for straight 8 years and he is also a nephew to Chaponda. General Supuni was then a Millitary Attaché.

It was alleged the money was wired to a bank account belonging to Zambian woman Chamika Moore, who is a close ally to Chaponda.

After four years, the matter has died down slowly and the whereabouts of the monies is still unknown.

Chaponda who also served as the minister of agriculure, irrigation and water development, he was also involved in a serious financial scandal termed as “maizegate”. He was fired from his ministerial position for being found with hard cash $200,000 and K150 Million in his house. He masterminded a maize deal with his Zambian counterparts to dupe Malawi Govt,$13 Million.

Sadly, Last year he was exonerated and he is majestically serving as a parliamentarian for Mulanje South West.

We are appealing to the Malawi Defence Commander General Vincent Nundwe, Deputy Minister of Defence Hon Chipiliro Mpinganjira and His Excellency Prof Arthur Peter Mutharika to intervene and open a fresh docket in investigating the three mentioned above.
