Blantyre City Council which is among the few well run town assemblies in Malawi.
Blantyre is the commercial hub of Malawi, on daily basis it receives more than 500 to 800 tourists – Local and International.
The council has vigorously taken a step to revamp all recreational parks in Blantyre.
Blantyre is a home to more than 2,000 families. It is surrounded by low density areas such as Namiwawa, Mudi, Mandala, Sunnyside, just to mention a few.
Families were stripped of leisure activities over the weekend, as the parks were in a bad state to hold any family friendly event.
That’s where BCC comes in to rescue the situation.
So far, they have identified four recreational parks that works.
1)Aloe’s Garden, along Victoria Avenue next to Gelato Ice cream centre.
2) Rangerly Park is opposite Blantyre Sports Club
3) Jubilee park is at C.I
4) Namwiri Park is at Stella Maris Secondary School.
Speaking to The BCC Chief Executive officer Dr Alfred Chanza about this phenomenal activities they’re undertaking, he narrated,
“Our duty as the custodians of the City is to listen to the people’s concerns and complaints, at the same providing the neccessary information and awareness to the public domain about good models of sanitation, rules and guidelines for the city. We see these parks as part of tourism and beautifying the city,we are working hand in hand with Beautify Malawi (BEAM) to make sure Blantyre is the cleanest and beautiful city in Malawi”.
