Embattled Malawi Electoral Commission chairperson, Judge Dr Jane Ansah SC is reported to have gone on leave pending retirement, judicial staff have confirmed.

The source says, Ansah who has qualified for retirement has decided to go on a holiday abroad as the Judicial Service Commission works on her remuneration package and other benefits.

Other sources suggest that Ansah might be aware of the judgement which the five high court judges are expected to deliver hence advising her to consider taking an early leave pending the dissolution of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) waiting for the formation of a new one.

Malawians are anxiously waiting for the constitutional court ruling to be delivered on Monday by five High Court Judges in which the MCP and UTM leaders, Saulos Chilima and Lazarus Chakwera are challenging the presidential election results in which MEC declared Peter Mutharkka of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) as winner.
